4 Ways to Use the Internet to save Money on Hotels

Are you looking for only the best in hotel deals? The Internet makes it easy to save money when traveling, and hotels are no exception. Next time you're trying to book a room, use these tips to get the best possible rate.

1. Look Up Coupon Codes

Take the name of the hotel that you're looking for, go to the search engine of your choice and then run a search query for promo codes, discount codes or coupon codes. Remember to try all three, as they may be posted under a different title! As an example, if you're looking for a Hilton hotel, you might look for "hilton promo code," "hilton discount codes," or "hilton coupon codes." You will usually get a string of numbers that can then be entered into the hotel's website for a discount!

2. Go Directly to the Hotel's Website

In addition to the above, make sure that you go directly to the hotel's website if you want a deal. While there are third-party websites out there that claim to give the best discounts, they usually pull information from the hotel's website itself. If you've found a third-party rate that is lower than the hotel's own website, you might want to ask them about whether they're willing to price match.

3. Search Alternate Days

Is your travel schedule flexible? You can often save a lot of money by changing the days. Sometimes checking in just a day early can save you a lot. If you haven't booked your flights yet, you might want to play around with your timing until you get the perfect deal.

4. Pull Up an Online Map

If you aren't set on where you want to stay, pulling up a map can often be the best way to find deals that you might have missed. Look along main roads for hotels and motels that may be far away in terms of miles but still easily accessible, whether it be by car or public transportation. Often a hotel that is just a few blocks away may be far less expensive than a hotel right in the heart of the city, and it won't be too inconvenient to make the trip!

Never underestimate the power of persuasion! In addition to the above tips, you might consider "unplugging" from the Internet and just giving the hotel a call. Sometimes if you ask for a discount they will be willing to give you one! If not, it never hurts to try.
